In another life I skied around the mountains of British Columbia for work and fun, and often frequented skiing website newschoolers.com, the internet mecca for those committed to skiing with style and ease. One lucky day I found myself on the cover of the esteemed website, thanks to a run called Easter Chutes, and a mate called Chris.

What’s great about a still photograph of an action scene is the way the context of what is actually happening can get a little lost. While the above image looks explosive, dynamic, etcetera and so on, the truth is I am cruising through two snowy trees at just above walking pace, with a well timed little hop.
Chris’ timing on the shutter and work in post production delivered to the internet a picture telling a true story, just with the highlights embellished.
Sorry to break the illusion of exciting powdery skiing, but most of my time in Canada was spent doing things like this:
(ski school duties, not posing with hardware…)
… rather than doing things like charging through deep snow. Although there was still time to do some of that:
and some of this:
Who’d grow up, eh?
